Once we took our first steps inside of the palace, I couldn’t help but appreciate its impressive splendor. Directly in front of me was a giant fountain that took up the majority of the entrance hall, with a giant staircase flanking each side of the fountain. Green chandeliers hung from the ceilings, emanating a stark white glow inside.

There were several green framed paintings lining the walls along the staircase, with many of them reaching several meters in height. It was clear that the artists here enjoyed drawing extremely large paintings. I didn’t recognize any of the people in the portraits or the vistas they displayed, but each was majestic in its own right. There were two hallways flanking the large stairway, but the servants opted to lead us around the fountain itself, revealing another corridor that led deeper into the palace.

Despite the vast amount of extravagance on display, this place didn’t exude the same type of gaudiness as Tringall’s Academy. It likely helped that there was little gold to be seen, other than gold trim along certain bits of furniture. That impression held true as we followed the servants to our rooms. Or, more accurately, to Clarissa’s room.

“Everything is rather… green,” Aurielle noted as we walked.

“It would not be Hoganna without a dash of green on everything,” Juliana explained.

“And Tasberg doesn’t have red dye splattered everywhere, Juliana?” Clarissa questioned with a raised eyebrow.

“Both red and black,” Juliana quipped. “It gives the palace a certain allure.”

“Not as alluring as this vibrant green,” Clarissa said, gesturing to the walls. “Although… we could do with a bit more gold in places.”

Taking this place anywhere close to the Academy’s gaudy atmosphere wasn’t a good idea. “I think this place looks great, Clarissa,” I said immediately.

This brought a broad smile to the blonde beauty’s face. “I’m pleased that you like it, handsome,” she purred. “Especially since we will be staying here for quite some time.”

“If your intention is to have Alex put down roots here,” Juliana said, “then it is only right that he sees the Sovereignty with his own eyes before he decides.”

“I’m sure it will be an easy decision, once Alex sees all of the burning trees there,” Clarissa retorted, waving a hand.

Oddly enough, Juliana had no quick comeback for this remark. I wondered why they would be burning so many trees, other than to acquire loads of charcoal.

“What about Tringall?” I asked. “We’d gotten quite familiar with the Dungeon there.”

“Tasberg’s capital would be safer,” Juliana assured me. “Especially given recent events.”

“Once handsome sees everything that Floternus can offer, I doubt he will want to leave,” Clarissa declared.

“My parents would, no doubt, like having me live here in the capital. They like to come here, on occasion,” Anny said. She blushed, hiding behind her long bangs, “but I’m fine anywhere, honest.”

“A city like this wouldn’t be possible in my homeland,” Aurielle admitted. “It is rather unique.”

Clarissa snapped her fingers at Aurielle’s comment. “See? Everyone agrees Floternus is the most amazing city around. I’m glad that’s settled.
